Schumacher & Schumacher (2023)

Formula One racing world Champion Michael Schumacher racked up seven F1 Grand Prix championships, 91 race wins, and 155 podium placements. He lived life in the fast lane, on and off the track … until 29 December 2013, when a skiing accident left him with a devastating brain injury and forced early retirement.

But his legacy lives on. In mid-July 2023, Michael’s 24-year-old son Mick (now an F1 reserve driver) will be taking his dad’s 2011 Mercedes W02 car to the track at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for a tribute run. And as of late June 2023, despite Lewis Hamilton’s best efforts, Michael Schumacher still holds several unbeaten F1 records including:

  • most consecutive podium finishes (19)
  • highest total fastest laps (77)
  • most hat tricks (22)
  • most drivers’ championships (7 – now tied with Lewis Hamilton)
  • most consecutive drivers’ championships (5)
  • and most races still left to go in the season when he’d already become World Champion (in 2002 he’d won the title by round 11 of 17)

In 44-minute documentary Schumacher & Schumacher, writer-director Remarni Ramchaitar-Jackman (Morgan Freeman: Breaking Barriers, The Unsolved Kidnapping of Madeleine McCann) pops the hood on the career of one of the all-time greats, Michael Schumacher, and follows the efforts of his son Mick to make his own mark in F1 racing.

Mick was just 14 years old and out skiing with his dad on the day of Michael’s accident. With memory as a guiding light, he’s shaped his life and career to uphold the Schumacher name. It’s the ultimate father-and-son sports story.
